Bellow is a clip from ‘They Live’, a classic from 1988 directed by John Carpenter. This text raises the discussion of the control of the media and the way in which it interferes and influences our everyday lives.
After watching this film I decided I would make my own short film involving the use of subliminal messages and the power of advertising on an audience.
As I am going home this weekend, I have planned to book out a digital stills camera (Cannon 450d) and take photographs of products/billboards around my local area and edit them on photoshop as to what they mean beneath all the fancy pictures. For example, a Coca Cola can would subliminally read: “delicious”, “you are thirsty”, “drink me” and “buy me”.
